GranuFlo

GranuFlo1In March of 2012 the FDA recalled the two liquid acid concentrates GranuFlo and NaturaLyte used in the hemodialysis process. The drugs are manufactured by Fresenius, the leading hemodialysis supplier in the United States. In 2011 an internal memo sent by Fresenius to their clinic doctors stated that there was an increase of patients suffering cardiac arrest after using the products GranuFlo and NaturaLyte. But the company did not warn other customer clinics about potential heart issues despite the fact that more than 100,000 dialysis patients were receiving the dialysis products at facilities not owned by Fresenius. After the memo was leaked in 2012, the FDA issued a Class 1 recall of the products, saying, “This product may cause serious adverse health consequences, including death.”
